Cree plans to replace all lighting equipment with LEDs

On November 1, 2007, Cree announced plans to replace all lighting equipment at its headquarters and manufacturing facilities with LEDs and disclosed the results of the replacement phase 1. The energy-saving and environmentally-friendly XLamp(R) LEDs are now available in the Crete headquarters for parking entrances, foyers and meeting rooms. Cree's LED Workplace(TM) conversion demonstrates the energy and light quality of LEDs, and LED lighting is now a viable option for commercial and residential customers.

After studying the energy consumption before and after the replacement of the lighting equipment, the energy saving of the LED lamp was confirmed. The results show that the total energy consumption of the newly installed LED is 48% lower than the replacement of incandescent, fluorescent and high pressure sodium lamps. LED lighting devices that combine energy efficiency, environmental protection, low maintenance and cost of disposal are now a real replacement for traditional lighting solutions.

Local utility company Duke Energy (one of the largest power companies in the US) is working with Cree to tap into the benefits of LED lighting. Duke Energy's customers have always been interested in knowing how to save money through energy efficiency, and Duke therefore takes innovative technologies such as LED support as its responsibility. Duke hopes that the energy efficiency program will be approved next year, and the company is also focused on providing customers with complete lighting solutions. At this point, they hope to develop some projects that can benefit from LED technology.

Cree Chairman and CEOHhuck Swoboda said: "It is generally believed that LED lighting is still a few years away from a wide range of applications, but it turns out that Cree's technology can now make LED lighting solutions a reality. The replacement of the company's lighting equipment shows LED lighting. The revolution is progressing well and will prove its benefits in terms of energy efficiency, maintenance costs and environmental impact."

In addition, Cree also launched a new website, , to share the results and implementation details of LED workplace lighting replacement with other organizations. In addition to information from lighting vendors, the new website also includes relevant light, energy and maintenance standards. The website that forms the cost savings of LED lighting fixtures will also focus on other LED workplace installations.
