Upgrade must see! Samsung S, Note series update Android 7.0 guide

Last week, Thunder Technology provided us with a list of Android 7.0 upgrade predictions. Now in order to increase relevance, this time the author will use Samsung's two most popular flagship S and Note series as examples to provide everyone with a comprehensive update guide.

Up to now, there are 16 orthodox iterations of Samsung's S series and Note series (such as Active, Zoom, Neo, Note Edge and other niche extension product lines are not for reference), of which almost certainly will be the official upgrade of the main S6, The S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, Note 7 are seven. Note 4 users can also look forward to modest expectations, but the author has reservations about the possibility of upgrading.

Different versions of S/Note series upgrade time difference

Starting with the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung made a very important adjustment to the S and Note models: Discarding the previous GT-I and Note series GT-N model prefixes of the S series and turning to the new prefix SM-G And SM-N. Some low-end and mid-range models have also followed the SM series prefixes. For example, the A series is SM-A, and the C series is SM-C.

In addition, the S/Note series has the same type suffix for different models. For example, the last few generations of international suffixes are mainly F and C, and the Korean version is suffixed with S/L/K. The Bank of China’s public version and Hong Kong stencil's edition will add 0 in the end. The BNM Customization Edition prefers to use W and V. The US version includes A and V. The Canadian version is W8. There are other suffixes such as P and G that are too unpopular. Even the parallel market is difficult to see.

Samsung Note 4 versions of the first Android 5.0.1 roughly push time

Taking the Note 4's international models SM-N910F and SM-N910C as examples, these two models were the first to update from pre-installed Android 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 (usually in January-February) . Among them, the N910C is the Orion model, equipped with Exynos 5433 processor; N910F is a dragon model, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.

Shortly after the first push of these two models, the Korean version will gradually start to upgrade. Since the Korean version is customized by the operator, it is often accompanied by the letter code in the suffix of the model. For example, the Note 4 model customized by SK Telecom, Korea's largest operator, is the SM-N910S. This model may be later than the international version, but it will not be too late, at most a few days to a dozen days.

Wait until the international version and the Korean version are pushed, and then the customized version of the US version, the BNM, the Hong Kong version, and the domestic operator will receive the push. Therefore, in theory, the upgrade speed of the international version and the Korean version is the most secure. The upgrade time of the domestic operator version is often the slowest, at least 3-6 months later than the international version. Other versions are quite satisfactory. Especially the Note 4 Hong Kong version, the upgrade speed is actually slower than the State Bank, which in the previous Note model is simply unheard of.

It is worth mentioning that Samsung's annual product and upgrade strategy is random. For example, the Note 3 Hong Kong version is in the international version, and Note 4 is separate from the international version, resulting in the Hong Kong version can not pass the international version of the new system; Note 5 because canceled the Snapdragon processor version, the overall upgrade process Obviously faster. Therefore, the author can only guarantee that the S/Note series generally follow this rule in the upgrade.

Before the exposure of the international version of Note 7's Android 7.0 test machine

Self-sufficient for the S/Note series to eat Android 7.0

Many users are always passively waiting for the system to upgrade. We do not know that sometimes we can also self-sufficient, let their S/Note models eat the latest nougat system.

1, the same model in different regions of the model, you can pass the official firmware

For example, a user owns an international version of the Samsung S6 (SM-G920F). The machine is sold in Russia (area code: SER) and the system version is Android 5.1.1. At this time, the user found out by querying Samsung's latest firmware that this model pushed a latest Android 6.0.1 firmware in France (area code: XEF).

If this user wants to use Android 6.0 for the first time, all he has to do is not wait patiently to receive a new system from Russia, and then perform an OTA online upgrade through system updates on the phone. It should be a direct download of the French 6.0 firmware (Samsung firmware is usually divided into five sets and one package, just upgrade the system generally use one package), and then directly through Odin software line brush the system.

The reason for this is because Samsung has different system engineers in each country. These engineers are very out of sync because of various unknown reasons. Engineers in some countries are very quick and often push firmware in the first place, while some engineers want users to wait for months. However, there is a very important prerequisite for this, that is, your model must have firmware compatible with you in other regions. This is basically impossible for the BNM to do.

2. If you are abandoned by the government, you can seek shelter from a third party

Earlier, Samsung has said that it will provide the S, Note two series of flagship 18 months of the upgrade cycle. Usually a Samsung flagship will give you up to two cross-version upgrades, such as Samsung Note 3 factory pre-installed Android 4.3, after the official will give you upgrade 4.4.2 and 5.0, after 5.0 not even think about it. Therefore, this also caused some old models to be abandoned by the government.

The problem is, how stable the stability of this type of third-party firmware is, and some of them are prone to unknown bugs. In addition, the requirements for the model version are unusually strict. Generally, the international version of the Dragon can be adapted, but the National Bank and Hong Kong version are almost impossible. In addition, models such as hyperboloids and dual-card dual standby should not be too high. After all, it takes a lot of effort to adapt these models, and the opportunity cost is too high.

All in all, if you want to make your Samsung S/Note flagship smoothly and even eat Android 7.0 as soon as possible, still need to conduct a thorough study. On the one hand, users need to see which version of the Samsung flagship they belong to, and there is no hope for an official upgrade. On the other hand, we must also see whether there are still opportunities for the unofficial 7.0 of their own models. If not, then the author can do nothing.
