What is the difference between SATA and IDE?

SATA hard disk adopts a new design structure, fast data transmission, space saving, and has many advantages over IDE hard disk:

1, SATA hard disk than IDE hard disk transmission speed. At present, SATA can provide a peak transmission rate of 150 MB/s. It will reach 300 MB/s and 600 MB/s in the future. At that time we will get nearly 10 times faster than the IDE hard disk.

2. Compared with the PATA 40-pin data cable of the IDE hard disk, the SATA cable is small and thin, and the transmission distance is far, and it can be extended to 1 meter, making it easier to install the equipment and the wiring inside the machine. The connector is small in size, and this cable effectively improves the air flow inside the computer and also improves the heat dissipation inside the chassis.

3. Relative to the IDE hard disk system power consumption has been reduced. SATA hard drives work with 500 millivolts.

4. SATA can be backward compatible with PATA devices by using a multipurpose chipset or a serial-to-parallel converter. Since SATA and PATA can use the same drive, there is no need to upgrade or make other changes to the operating system.

5, SATA does not need to set the master and slave disk jumper. The BIOS will number it in order of 1, 2, and 3. This depends on which SATA connector the drive is attached to (easy to install). The IDE hard disk needs to be set to jumper to set the master and slave.

6, SATA also supports hot swap, can be used like a U disk. The IDE hard disk does not support hot swap
