Foreign media reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that driverless car technology will be completed in five to six years, and that such cars are unlikely to harm passengers and pedestrians.
In an interview, Musk said: "After six years, the safety factor of driverless cars will be 10 times that of humans."
He believes that when unmanned technology comes out, the industry may still need years to clear up the regulatory barriers.
Tesla is developing driverless technology for its electric car products, and the company is also negotiating with car suppliers. Musk expects that we will see more unmanned auto parts suppliers in the next few years.
"Tesla will start quite a lot of independent research and development," he said. However, Musk did not disclose the name of the development partner.
Tesla said that if you want to fully promote unmanned technology, "machine vision", the computer technology that quickly recognizes objects, is the biggest technical obstacle.
The camera and radar used by the unmanned vehicle may only see a part of the object. In order to determine the correct direction of travel, the unmanned vehicle must identify the entire object. This is a key challenge for developers of driverless technology. "It sounds a bit scary. I don't know what drones treat us as human beings." Musk joked.
In addition to talking about unmanned vehicles, Musk also expects that Tesla will receive a large amount of free cash flow in the third quarter of 2015, and Tesla can build a planned battery factory without any additional debt. Earlier this year, Tesla raised $2.3 billion through the issuance of convertible bonds.
Tesla also plans to work with Panasonic to build a $5 billion Gigafactory, a 15-mile industrial park located 15 miles west of Reno, Nevada.
With Tesla launching the Model X SUV, Tesla will receive a lot of free cash flow next year. The Model X SUV is expected to be delivered early next year. Musk has said that if the plan progresses very smoothly, the sales of Model X SUV will reach 15,000 to 20,000 units next year.

He said that Tesla needs to build more service stations before further sales increase.
