CNCC Characters | Intel's "Chief Engineer", Automated Drivers - Wu Gansha

Today, we have come to chat with one of CNCC's most important guests, Wu Gansha, and we started with several of his identities.

| Dean of Intel

At this time last year, his title may be the dean of the Intel China Research Institute and the first local "lead engineer" cultivated by Intel China Research Institute.

During the university period, Wu Gansha was one of the ten lucky winners of the Intel Scholarship. Is this the legendary family's children? !

However, when he first entered Intel, Wu Gansha had some "low self-esteem!" "Inferiority"? "Inferiority"! The important question is said three times. Xiao Bian I breathe an air of cold. What can make other people's children feel inferior?

It turned out that as a master, he was surrounded by doctors, which made him feel like a runner. However, this did not undermine his confidence in doing something for Intel. "Being ahead - this simple wish supports me."

Wu Gansha first complied with the company's regulations, went to work at 8 am, and complied with the boss's work schedule at 3 am.

Sure enough, after a month of adherence, Wu Gansha became ill and later he learned to balance and regulate. Speaking of this experience, Wu Gansha said that it seems a little silly now, but I was always touched by myself at that time, and I was inspired by the energy of that time and never relaxed.

Wu Gansha joined Intel and started as a man-machine interface, but he personally feels strengths are not in this area. In the second year, Wu Gansha ushered in a major opportunity for work: choose to switch to enter the core technical team!

After this transition, Wu Gansha and his team, with the support of the US technical team, slowly set up their own projects and conducted independent research and development. "This is a space that is more able to display my capabilities," said Wu Gansha. Only three years later, he became a project manager. "In those days, I was able to improve almost every year. Intel convinced me that as long as I made a score, I would be rewarded." Looking back at his own experience, Wu Gan What sand feels most is that once every five years, the research direction will change once.

Intel's selection of "lead engineer" implements globally uniform standards and competition is fierce. The "lead engineer" is second only to the academician and senior chief engineer in the Intel R&D system and has a high status. To become a 'lead engineer', you need to have excellent capabilities in business, technology, strategy, and team management. And Wu Gansha did it!

Intel China Research later upgraded to one of Intel's five largest global research institutes, focusing on embedded system research. Wu Gansha was appointed as director of the embedded software lab and led the embedded software innovation work. Later, he became the dean of the Intel China Institute.

| The CEO

Now he, as the co-founder and CEO of Tide Science and Technology, runs the academic circle, industrial circle, investment circle and so on. "I am busy with the handover during the day and I am busy watching investors in the evening." Wu Gansha, the former president of the Intel China Research Institute, who has been on time and on time in accordance with the pace of foreign companies. After choosing to start a business, the rhythm of life is completely completed. changed.

This time, Wu Gansha finally made up his mind and offered his resignation to his old owner who had served him for more than a decade. He resolutely jumped into the tide of entrepreneurship and transformed the third entrepreneurial idea into action. He said: "What attracts me is entrepreneurship. First, this undertaking has great significance. Second, there is a big market for this matter. The inner awakening of the original force, the gravity of the future, and the enlightenment of reading prompted me to act eventually."

Regarding the direction of entrepreneurship, Wu Gansha saw the trend of artificial intelligence and driverless development, together with Zhao Yong, the co-founder of Geling Shenying, and Jiang Yan, a strange geek for intelligent vehicle research technology of Beijing Institute of Technology, and established a family. The new driving technology companies are in decline – driving the trend and pursuing the future. Obviously they want to drive the future of driverless technology. The company will provide driverless solutions for car brands.

The three elites joined forces, and based on their pure technological background, they identified the direction of the new company as "providing driverless solutions for automotive brands" and "Intel Inside" in the automotive world.

Automatic driving often has three different forms:

First, assisted driving or semi-automated driving, Tesla's autopilot is such. In some scenarios, the car can enter autopilot, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruising and lane keeping on closed, structured roads, and automatic parking. It must be noted that this type of technology has significant limitations. Many of Tesla's recent accidents occurred at intersections, entrances/exits, and two-way roads, which exceeded the processing capacity of autopilot.

The next step is highly automated driving, which can be automated in most streets and lanes, and can support the formation of multiple vehicles. The environmental awareness and driving cognition of these technologies have been greatly improved, not only can they handle the roads that the above autopilot does not, but can even run on unstructured roads without lane lines at all. Highly self-driving cars can also share or compete for road rights with other smart vehicles or people driving vehicles under complex road conditions.

The third category is autonomous driving or driverless driving. It is entirely driven by artificial intelligence and can remove the steering wheel, throttle, and brakes.

In the next five years, the main efforts of the traditional depots and parts suppliers will be the first and second types of automatic driving. This is not to remove the driver but to make the driver safer and more comfortable. Obviously, this is a more gradual and gradual approach.

Wu Gansha thinks that the areas where driverless cars can quickly mature and form business models in the short term include:

Vehicles with limited scenes and special roads: for example, vehicles that run on medium and low speeds in dedicated lanes, such as vehicles in warehousing and logistics bases, sightseeing vehicles in scenic spots, and parks;

Lower-cost semi-automated driving solutions: If the cost can be controlled within 20,000 yuan, it will bring great value to users.

Wu Gansha commented on his own entrepreneurship: “When you can draw on a blank sheet of paper, you will feel it is very exciting.”

| Education Steering Committee of Tsinghua University

He also has an identity that may not be clear to many people, that is, a member of the Education Steering Committee of the Data Science Research Institute of Tsinghua University.

However, what is this Shenma Committee doing? ! The educational brick family is saying so, to ensure and improve the quality and level of professional degree education.

Originally all the experts invited by Tsinghua University, Teacher Wu Gansha was not only a student superhero during his student years, but also a “light of the Chinese” after his work. Now he is an “old driver” of innovation and entrepreneurship. Pride."

In comparing the characteristics of young people in China and the United States in innovation and entrepreneurship, he mentioned that in recent years young people in China have shown a strong interest in consumer fields and business model innovation, while young Americans have a particular interest in technological innovation and problem solving. . In his view, China has been getting better and better in the field of technological innovation. It requires more young people to stop pacing the “easy to get” and to expand their horizons in the spirit of geeks.

However, young people nowadays often fall into the “easy to get” sense of satisfaction, and many entrepreneurial teams quickly grow and die. Wu Gansha thinks that the scale has developed too quickly and the company’s culture will be quickly diluted and confused. In a small-scale venture, culture is not important, and large corporations do not have a culture, and their values are not uniform. This creates a state of “not to be willing to share the same things with others.” When there are benefits, it will be done in one go and if there are difficulties, it will be scattered. Young people's startup companies are the most vulnerable to such problems, and development is too unstable.

In the foreign entrepreneurship circle, there will be a practice of “adult counseling”. When several young people with no entrepreneurial experience establish a company, they will invite an experienced CEO to take a few years to bring the young people to business. Matured, then run the company. Our young entrepreneurs, who do not have any help and rely on themselves, will have some problems. This problem shows that we need to improve the entrepreneurial mechanism.

Having said so much, do you want to see the God-like teacher Wu Gansha? The heartbeat is not as good as the action. On October 21st, Miss Wu will report “Social and Economic Change Brought by Smart Driving” at the 2016 China Computer Conference. We will donate a non-member CCF ticket valued at RMB 2300. With this ticket, we can participate in the 20 to 22-day wonderful guest invitations including 15 guest speakers, 30 forums and 50 events (except the dinner party).
