Israeli company receives nearly 10 million financing to do a $100 laser radar

Radar technology is one of the indispensable sensors for the intelligent driving of smart cars. Currently, for most smart cars, laser radar is used as the main sensor. Lidar can provide long distance and high resolution for automobiles. The independence of 3D data, and in poor lighting conditions, bad weather can also play a role, than the average camera vision sensor to rely more on.

However, the complexity and expensive price of currently available lidar systems have deterred most car manufacturers. If they want to bring laser radar to cars and achieve mass production, then how to reduce the cost of radar is the key. In order to solve this problem, many companies and research institutes have started to develop cheap solid-state laser radars. Israeli startup Innoviz Technologies is one of them.

Recently, Innoviz announced that it has completed Round A financing amounting to US$9 million. Investment companies include prominent venture capitalist Zohar Zisapel, Israel’s local venture capital firm Vertex Venture Capital, and a local Israeli automobile retail company.

Innoviz announced that it will use this financing to complete product development for solid-state radar prototypes. Their first product is a high-definition solid-state laser radar (HD-SSL) that compares with the best and legacy radars available today. The company’s product cost is lower and its size is smaller. According to official information, their new products will reduce costs by reducing the number of component devices. The price of solid-state radar sensors will be less than US$100 in volume. The length, breadth and height will not exceed 5cm. Innoviz said that the company plans to launch samples of this product by the end of this year. In addition, the company also said that it will use the funds to expand the team's scale and develop supporting ancillary products (positioning and localization software, object object tracking software, and sensor fusion software, etc.).

Lidar on Google Unmanned Vehicle

Innoviz Technologies is not the first company to make cheap radar sensors. As early as the beginning of the year at CES, American startup Quanergy demonstrated their solid-state radar sensors. According to the presentation at the exhibition at the time, the cost of Quanergy's solid-state radar sensors Below $250, and already able to reach the production level, Quanergy said that the product will be put into production in September this year and will be delivered to the hardware equipment manufacturers for production in early 2017.

In addition to the company, world-renowned research institutions are also working on low-cost laser radar. MIT and the US Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) are developing radar sensors on the chip. They said that they hope to reduce the cost of a single sensor to US$10 in the future, and that they can package radar sensors at the robot’s fingertips. on. However, at this stage, there is still some distance to achieve this goal.

From this point of view, the radar's status is of utmost importance regardless of whether it is smart driving or robotics. The low cost of high-precision radar is one of the important roads for the development of smart technology. Can we have more in the future? It is still worth looking forward to when a startup company joins the industry to research and develop and make achievements.

Magnetoelectric Proximity Switch

The magnetic proximity switch is a kind of proximity switch. The magnetic proximity switch is one of many types in the sensor family. It is made by the use of electromagnetic working principle and advanced technology. It is a position sensor. It can transform the non-electricity or electromagnetic quantity into the desired electric signal through the change of the positional relationship between the sensor and the object, so as to achieve the purpose of control or measurement.
