EPA Announcement Trying to Clarify Relevant Points about LM-80 Testing of Semiconductor Lighting Products
In the near future, ENERGY STAR will put forward a series of requirements for the lumen maintenance test of semiconductor lighting products. The EPA has received a lot of questions about this. The EPA has issued a notice to explain whether LED packages , arrays, modules, etc. meet the requirements of ENERGY STAR for semiconductor lamps and overall LED lamps.
A few key points are:
The current Energy Star lighting v1.1 specification (SSL v1.1), citing IES LM-80-08, is still in force. The ENERGY STAR lamp v1.0 indicates that the current version will be replaced in the summer of 2011, and the current version will be void.
From March 31, 2011, and including this date, the EPA only accepts data that meets the LM-80 standard. Data collected prior to the release of the LM-80 standard, or procedures that do not comply with this standard, will not be accepted as an Energy Star Standard for Semiconductor Lighting Products.
Starting from September 30, 2010 and including this date, the current SSL V1.1 specification requires LM-80 test data to be obtained from the NVLAP certification lab. However, no laboratory currently has LM-80 test certification. So, now introduce an over-certification.
Under the upcoming luminaire standards, lumen maintenance rates use data consistent with the LM-80, which will be defined by the future published IES Technical Memorandum TM-21-11.
