JFE Engineering (Headquarters: Tokyo) On June 1, 2010, the "Super Fast Charger Project Team" was established to promote the development of electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers. The company recently developed a charger with a significantly shorter charging time. In the future, we will strive to launch the market in 2010 after the empirical experiment.
The charger developed by the company is characterized by charging the EV battery to 50% in just 3 minutes, charging to 70% in just 5 minutes, and charging time is significantly shorter than the original charger. But to charge to 80% takes 30 minutes, which is quite long (same as the original). If it is fully charged, it can drive 160km of EV, charge 50% to drive about 80km, and charge 70% to drive about 110km. The company believes that charging 50% or 70% of the electricity can basically meet the travel distance requirement of the home vehicle for one day, so the charger with the above charging time characteristics has been developed.
The key to fast charging is to charge the rechargeable battery in the charger at night, and then “take the power from the special battery in the charger and release it to the EV (the rechargeable battery)†(JFE Engineering). In addition, the original charger uses 50KW of large-capacity power, and needs to be equipped with devices such as transformers, and the newly developed charger can use 15kW of ordinary power, which is said to reduce the investment of equipment that generally needs 10 million yen to approximately 60%.
