TV market will return to performance competition: new concept does not drive sales

Domestic color TV enterprises slow down

The Consumer Electronics Survey Office of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce recently released the “2011 China's Flat-panel TV City Consumer Demand and 2012 Forecast Report” showing that in 2012, the demand for flat-panel TVs in China will reach 42 million units, and the overall growth rate will continue to decline. The increase was 4 million units from the previous quarter, which is the first time that this figure has dropped since 2004.

Lu Jiebo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, said that the reasons for the two reasons led to sluggish consumption in the color TV market. The first is the impact of real estate factors and low global consumption. The growth rate of the development of flat-panel TV consumer market in China has generally slowed down. Second, the demand in the primary and secondary markets has become saturated. The development of the tertiary markets has not yet been thorough, resulting in an overall consumer TV market. It was once sluggish; third, 3D TVs and smart TVs that were restricted by content resources and signals did not achieve breakthrough growth.

The data shows that the sales growth in the third and fourth-tier markets was 17.5% year-on-year, which was three times the growth rate of the primary and secondary markets. It can be seen that in 2012, the 34 markets will soon become the main areas for Chinese and foreign color TV brand competition.

Performance indicators will become the focus of competition

In the past two years, various color TV manufacturers have been busy competing for features, especially domestic companies, gradually neglecting the basic characteristics of flat-panel color TVs - the improvement and improvement of picture quality and sound quality. However, the survey shows that among consumers considering color TV, considering that “picture quality” is an important one, accounting for 26%, second only to the “brand” choice, which exceeds the consideration of price and function. Experts said that this survey reminded color TV manufacturers that, with frequent technical innovations and complex functional configurations, consumer demand has tended to return to the most basic color TV product performance indicators such as picture quality.

In addition, the price competition among flat-panel TV brands has intensified at this stage. In order to fully obtain cost competitive advantage, companies often sacrifice the basic performance of some products, the most obvious being the sound effects.

Zhang Subing, of the China Electronics Technology Standardization Institute, pointed out that flat-panel TVs are increasingly thin and thin, which inevitably reduces the quality of television sounds. To ensure good sound effects, it is necessary to increase the investment in technology and cost, and in the market situation dominated by price competition, it is difficult for enterprises to do this. In the future, there will still be much room for improvement of the sound effects of flat-panel TVs.

Accelerate 3D popularity

Although the industry agrees that 3D TV is the only way for the future development of the color TV industry, there is no content at all. Although previous trials of 3D TV channels in Tianjin, Shanghai, etc., were geographically limited and had little content and were unattractive, they still could not afford consumers' wide interest.

According to Mei Jianping, deputy director of the CCTV Technology Management Office, China's first 3D channel will be officially launched on January 1, 2012, and the 2012 Spring Festival will be officially launched. According to industry insiders, this is beneficial to accelerate the rapid development of the 3D industry.
