Create a 200W dynamically adjustable LED panel that illuminates as the brightest star in the night sky


An LED panel with a power of 200W is simply the "brightest star in the night sky", and the panel's illumination spectrum is dynamically adjustable! The project, called the Spectrum LED, was completed by the Instructables user yonatan24.

Do you think it is impossible to adjust the illuminating spectrum of led lights ? you are wrong. Now there is a DIY project called Spectrum LED, which has a power of up to 200W, and the intensity of the emitted light is equivalent to a 2000W incandescent lamp! SpectrumLED can be used as a daily light, or as a bedside lamp, but it can also be used to illuminate the workbench with its strong light.

So how does this LED achieve spectrally adjustable? The principle is very simple, as long as a plurality of LEDs of different colors are concentrated on the same panel, and then individually adjusting the LEDs of the respective colors can realize the dynamic adjustment of the overall illumination.

Step 1: Why do you want to make this adjustable high-power LED?

Previously made LED project

As a "love show off" DIY enthusiast, you need to share your DIY process to share with everyone, but the studio's lights are not powerful, ordinary table lamps can not provide a wide range of high-intensity lighting, buy an adjustable LED light group? Don't tease, they sell for as much as $1,000 to $10,000, which I can't afford. Then you can only do one yourself! The components we choose for this project are also as cheap as possible.

Step 2: Prepare the components

This project requires a lot of components, I marked the price of some components on eBay for reference:

"12V 17A (or higher current) Power Supply (if using ATX power supply, a 10Ω 5W pull-up resistor is required)

"12V 10W cold light LED, 10 for $3.50

"12V 10W warm LED, 10 for $5.50

"A large heat sink (I removed it from an old sound)

"Tripod, $13

"12V dimmer, 2 for $4.50

"Thermal glue, 5 grams $11.5

"Heat-shrink tubing, a box of $5.5

"Epoxy repair agent, $1.50

"5.5mm male connector, $1

"5.5mm female connector, $1

"Sandpaper, solder, wire, cable ties, screws, etc.

Step 3: Add a pull-up resistor (this step is required when using ATX power)

If you are using a common ATX power supply, you must add a 10Ω pull-up resistor.

Connect as shown above, connect the 10Ω resistor between the green wire head (PWRON) of the 20-pin connector and any black wire (ground). Once installed, it can be fixed with a little tape. After installing the pull-up resistor, power on the ATX power supply and you can see that the power supply fan is working, which means the power is on.

Step 4: Determine 12V on the ATX power supply (this step is required when using the ATX power supply)

From the bill of materials we can see that we chose 12V LED , so we need 12V power supply. On a standard ATX power supply, 12V is supplied between the yellow line (+12V) and the black line (ground). Both the 20-pin and 24-pin connectors of the ATX provide 12V, but these two connectors are not intended for use in this project. First, because my 20-pin connector is broken, and second, because the number of interfaces is too large, it is easy to insert it incorrectly, which can cause equipment damage.

Finally I found a connector that only contained yellow and black lines, but you can decide for yourself based on your own interests.

Step 5: Power supply modification (this step is required when using ATX power supply)

As shown above, first cut the selected power connector with a wire cutter, leave the appropriate length, and twist the wires of the same color together, so that we get a 12V and a ground.

Step 6: Extend the power cord

Find a wire that can withstand high currents and extend the pinched power cord.

Note that in order to avoid short circuit, it is necessary to add a heat shrinkable tube, of course, the insulating tape is the same.
