ST multi-core microcontroller SPC56EL70 meets the most stringent automotive safety standards

China, February 27, 2013 -STMicroelectronics (ST; New York Stock Exchange code: STM), which spans multiple electronic applications, the world ’s leading semiconductor supplier and the global automotive semiconductor leading supplier, announced that its New members are added to the multi-core microcontroller (MCU) product family. The new multi-core microcontrollers for functional safety applications in automotive electronics systems not only comply with the most stringent automotive safety standards (ISO 26262), but also expand the capacity of on-chip non-volatile memory, providing automotive customers with the use of existing components to upgrade the system. An easy way to strengthen ST's lineup of mission-critical, fault-tolerant automotive microcontrollers.

The SPC56EL70 32-bit microcontroller is the latest member of the STMicroelectronics automotive microcontroller product family. The STMicroelectronics 32-bit automotive microcontroller series complies with the automotive industry mandatory standard "Automotive Safety Integration Standard" (ASIL), including the most stringent ASIL D-level standards. These safety requirements are common requirements for key automotive systems, such as anti-lock braking systems, electric steering systems, active suspension systems, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

ST multi-core microcontroller SPC56EL70 meets the most stringent automotive safety standards

The ISO 26262 functional safety standard specifies the technical requirements required to avoid unreasonable hazards caused by the failure of all electronic systems. The role of microcontrollers in it is extremely important, so STMicroelectronics has fully evaluated the content of this standard for its automotive safety microcontrollers.

ST's new single-chip automotive microcontroller integrates two high-performance cores, 2MB flash memory, 192kB internal RAM, three CAN (control area network) interfaces, and peripherals optimized for safety and motor control applications, supporting two Three-phase brushless motor control function. The dual-core architecture reduces system-level component repeatability, which helps reduce overall system cost.

The architecture also provides customers with unique design flexibility. Users can choose lockstep or dual parallel processing (core independent operation) mode, which can support multiple security architectures. By configuring these architectures, users can choose between security and performance as needed. Get the best balance.

The SPC56EL automotive microcontroller family belongs to the Power Architecture product family, allowing system integrators to use 32 microcontrollers to develop powertrains, body electronics, chassis and safety systems. These products can support advanced functions, and improve car performance, cost-effectiveness and software and hardware reusability, saving R & D costs.

The entire series of products integrates a scalable 32-bit e200-core Power Architecture architecture and application-optimized peripherals and large-capacity embedded flash memory, which helps to improve system integration, maximize design reusability, shorten product time to market, and reduce System cost.

As part of a complete supply chain strategy, the product line uses STMicroelectronics' internal embedded flash (eFlash) process, using the company's technology precipitation in the field of embedded flash technology for more than 20 years. The flash memory capacity of the SPC56EL product line ranges from 768KB to 2MB, and the packages include LQFP100 and LQFP144, and the BGA257 package is expected to be launched.

Fabio Marchio, vice president of STMicroelectronics and general manager of automotive microcontrollers and infotainment products, said: "Functional safety compliance is a basic requirement for advanced system-on-a-chips for mission-critical automotive microcontrollers. It is compatible by expanding storage capacity. The upgrade path of existing dual-core devices allows our automotive customers to quickly meet more demanding applications, such as radar systems shifting from issuing alarm notification functions to taking corresponding actions. "

SPC56EL70 complies with the ISO 26262 ASIL-D standard, and samples are now available.
